I loved our weekly interventions with our child! He is teething right now so our interventions do not always go as planned but we have learned so much about working with infants in general as we have been able to work with him.  Our interventions also give us a good look at how life really is and how, the majority of the time, what we plan is not what is going to happen in the intervention and that is oaky!! It is important to go with the flow and not be dead set on what you want to happen, it is important to be flexible!   With our child, it is important that we have activities that include toys because, trying to do activities that do not include any props do not intrigue him! I do not have any questions or concerns at this time.  Weekly Quote: “I think it significant that Jesus loved these little ones who so recently had left the preexistence to come to earth. Children then and children now bless our lives, kindle our love, and prompt our good dee...

This week we worked on our family the projects!  This was hard because I was not sure exactly what was expected of us!  My group and I met several times this week to work on this project and put in a lot of time and effort into it, so I hope that we were able to do it to the teacher’s expectations! The resource that helped us the most this week was each other! I feel pretty prepared to prepare what we learned this week to the future, like from a one to ten I would say a seven. As a group we talked about everything together so I feel like we are all on the same page. Weekly Quote: “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success.” HWD: This week I did not have as much time to work on my HWD because all of my free time was spent on our family project but, as we were working on our family project I was in charge of the materials and had to find two resources that would help the family.  As I did this ...

Wow, I love my intervention family!  It has been fun to get to know them more and to be able to get work with our little guy! This last week we worked on problem solving by coloring and drawing lines on paper and we also worked on communication by having the mother make animal sounds and then have our little guy copy them! It was a little different than how I expected the intervention to go because he had just woken up from a nap so he was not wanting to do a lot of the activities we had planned for him.  I was really grateful for my partner and the preparation she had done before our intervention because we were both able to work together and the intervention ran very smoothly!  I do not have any concerns about my child but this first visit was helpful to know that we are going to plan for future visits. Weekly Quote: “But Jesus said, suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: For of such is the kingdom of heaven.”...

I enjoyed this week because we were able to learn a lot about the parent’s role in working in the family and how the mother and the father work very well together because they both provide different strengths to the family unit that help the children learn and grow.  This week I learned through reading the material, listening and reading what my peers had to say about the topic, and through listening to those that have gone through or are still going through situations like this.  I really liked how I learned this week and want to keep it the same for next week.  I probably learned the most from my peers this week.  It was nice to learn and connect with others as we participated in the group discussion boards.  I learned a lot this week but I know that there is still a lot left to learn till I will be able to confidently help families that are struggling with their children who have special needs.  As we worked with our group ...

This week we learned about base line of home visits and the base line of our plans.  The web map that we make helps me a lot to organize my thoughts and map out what we need to do as interventionist to help the children and parents progress. Also as we went through the material this week I became and even stronger believer in goals. In a lot of my classes we have to use goals with our children and it is so satisfying to set those goals and then watch them reach them!  This is both satisfying for the teachers and also the parents! Before this class I did not know how to make these webs so it has been nice to learn how to use them and make them.  I found that learning more about how to write goals was the most useful thing I have learned for my future home visits.  This week I do not have any questions but I will be sure to ask if anything does pop up that I am not sure about! Weekly Quote: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and f...

This week I learned more about different family members react to having a child or sibling with disabilities.  We got to read an article about how it is to be the sibling of a child with a disability and we also read an article about how it is to be a father of a child with a disability.  I really enjoyed reading these articles because you get to see several different perspectives of those involved when a child has a disability.  It was also neat to learn about the grief cycle and how the knowledge of the stages in the grief process can help professionals (or professionals in training) understand family response to a crisis.  When the family is able to get to the acceptance stage of the grief cycle then they are able to discuss their child’s disabilities, they are able to balance between encouraging independence and showing love, they are able to discipline without undue guilt, and they are able to pursue personal interests unrelated to their chi...

This week we learned more about ages and stages assessments, intervention plans, and what our intervention meetings will look like with our families and their babies.  It’s nice cause a lot of the format of the lesson plan is review for me because I have been writing lesson plans for a lot of my other classes this semester and last semester.  One thing that I really liked this week was the knowledge we were given about writing our lesson plan above, at, and below where the child is developmentally at.  We do this so that we are more flexible and are able to work with the child if he is having a slower day or if he has progressed since the last time we saw him. This information was both new to me and useful for the home visits I will be doing in the future.  At the moments everything seems pretty clear and I do not have any questions but I will be sure to ask if anything does pop up during this next week of studying!  Weekly Quote: “...

This week I learned about the crisis cycle and eco maps and how I, as an individual and a future professional on these matters, will be able to help families in need.  Especially those families that have children or siblings with disabilities.  I enjoyed learning about the different stresses and strains a family can have and how I can help ease that stress, by looking from their point of view, getting to know their family, and helping identify those that are in their life that they can look to for help, both formally and informally.  I will be gone next week and so this week I really strived to be on top of everything and even a little ahead.  I really enjoyed doing this actually because it helped me understand the material better in class.  I want to continue to always try and be a little ahead in class because it helps a lot with remembering and understanding the content.  Taking notes in class helps me a lot to remember wha...
