One thing I love about attending BYUI is that, in class we are able to apply the material that we are learning with the gospel!! I love the gospel so much! It has helped me so much in my life thus far and it is the reason I want to work with special needs children! My favorite song in primary was the one that says
“If you don’t walk as most people do,
some people walk away from you but I won’t, I won’t!
If you don’t talk as most people do,
some people talk and laugh at you
but I won’t, I won’t!
I’ll walk with you I’ll talk with you
that’s how I’ll show my love for you.
Jesus walked away from none.
He gave his love to every one
so I will I will!
Jesus blessed all he could see
then turned and said come follow me,
and I will I will!
I will I will
I’ll walk with you I’ll talk with you.
That’s how I’ll show my love for you.”
I also enjoyed our discussion in class because we were able to listen and hear how everyone interpreted what they had read differently and how the spirit spoke and touched them! I love this major and am so excited to learn more about working with children with special needs!! They are my favorite!
Weekly Quote:
“Whatever your struggle, my brothers and sisters—mental or emotional or physical or otherwise—do not vote against the preciousness of life by ending it! Trust in God. Hold on in His love. Know that one day the dawn will break brightly and all shadows of mortality will flee. Though we may feel we are “like a broken vessel,” as the Psalmist says,10 we must remember, that vessel is in the hands of the divine potter. Broken minds can be healed just the way broken bones and broken hearts are healed. While God is at work making those repairs, the rest of us can help by being merciful, nonjudgmental, and kind.”

This week while digging deeper into the material I have been studying, I have focused a lot of my attention specifically on Intellectual disabilities and the how to help children who struggle with that. Some of those disabilities include Fragile X Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, and fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. I learned a lot about these disabilities and how to identify them and what you can do to help individuals who may have one of these disabilities. While doing my expert interview, she also informed of several test you can give to help identify what area the child needs most help in at that moment!
