ECSE 340 Final Reflection

I love this class!!  I have learned a lot about the format of assignments but more importantly how to work with families and their children! I have learned a more appropriate vernacular to use while working with the families and the infants.  Also while in this class, I was reminded that things do not always go as planned and that is okay!  It is important to remember to always have patients and a positive attitude.  I am grateful for this class and for all that I have learned. And I am going to really miss my family and little baby!

This week we did not have an intervention session because our family is out of town, but we did work on our DAP activity for our child.  We decided on the PVC pipe phones and a picture flip book to go along with it.  Our child will be able to use these to help further several of his skills, including communication and problem solving.  The nice thing about our toy is that it is durable and can last him a long time! He will be able to use this toy when he starts to learn how to read and that way he can hear how exactly he is pronouncing all of the words! One thing I love about attending BYUI is that, in class we are able to apply the material that we are learning with the gospel!! I love the gospel so much! It has helped me so much in my life thus far and it is the reason I want to work with special needs children!  My favorite song in primary was the one that says “If you don’t walk as most people do,  some people walk away from you but I won’t, I won’t!  If you don’t talk as most people do, some people talk and laugh at you but I won’t, I won’t! I’ll walk with you I’ll talk with you  that’s how I’ll show my love for you.  Jesus walked away from none.  He gave his love to every one  so I will I will!  Jesus blessed all he could see  then turned and said come follow me,  and I will I will! I will I will  I’ll walk with you I’ll talk with you.   That’s how I’ll show my love for you.” I also enjoyed our discussion in class because we...

I love my intervention family!!  The little boy we work with was in a great mood this last intervention and we were able to do a lot with him.  I learned this last week that my partner and I do have different teaching styles, which at first I was a little worried about, but as we interacted and went through our lessons I realized it actually is a strength that we are different because it presents different types of learning for the child. At the moment I do not have any questions, I got some great feedback from our midterm evaluation and I will try to integrate the advice she gave us into our future lessons. HWD- I have learned sooo much about how to help children with undiagnosed disabilities as I have done my family project.  It is really sad that that there are children that are not able to get the help that they need because they are not able to get diagnosed. When I job shadowed a speech therapist for my senior project in high school, I was able to observe them working with children with behavior disabilities, motor development, and other several disabilities that where never given a diagnosis.  I am so excited to be able to learn more about speak therapists and all that they do to help children because I know that as I learn more about speech therapists I will be able to help undiagnosed children so much more!!   My source this week was https://www.assistiveware.com/support/proloquo2go/help-overview and https://www.angelsense.com

I loved our weekly interventions with our child! He is teething right now so our interventions do not always go as planned but we have learned so much about working with infants in general as we have been able to work with him.  Our interventions also give us a good look at how life really is and how, the majority of the time, what we plan is not what is going to happen in the intervention and that is oaky!! It is important to go with the flow and not be dead set on what you want to happen, it is important to be flexible!   With our child, it is important that we have activities that include toys because, trying to do activities that do not include any props do not intrigue him! I do not have any questions or concerns at this time.  Weekly Quote: “I think it significant that Jesus loved these little ones who so recently had left the preexistence to come to earth. Children then and children now bless our lives, kindle our love, and prompt our good dee...

This week we worked on our family the projects!  This was hard because I was not sure exactly what was expected of us!  My group and I met several times this week to work on this project and put in a lot of time and effort into it, so I hope that we were able to do it to the teacher’s expectations! The resource that helped us the most this week was each other! I feel pretty prepared to prepare what we learned this week to the future, like from a one to ten I would say a seven. As a group we talked about everything together so I feel like we are all on the same page. Weekly Quote: “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success.” HWD: This week I did not have as much time to work on my HWD because all of my free time was spent on our family project but, as we were working on our family project I was in charge of the materials and had to find two resources that would help the family.  As I did this ...
